Grants for Veterans

The aim of these Veterans grants and scholarships is to further the veterans’  education or to begin a post-secondary education that was postponed due to service. The second purpose of such grants for veterans is to redirect careers that were either forced to change due to a stint in military service or in the case of a veteran opting to switch careers after a certain time in a sector of the military.

Grants: One can avail grants for veterans through the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans are advised to contact the Labor Department directly and ask for detailed information on opportunities for grants for veterans. If the veteran applying for an educational grant happens to be homeless, a substantial grants for veterans is available for those particular individuals.

Additional Options: Both public and private organizations offer educational grants for veterans and their families, more specifically their children and even grandchildren. Military scholarships are offered to veterans. These scholarships are mostly offered directly through individual universities and colleges, but sometimes, it can be expected through privately formed funds and widely publicized programs. A number of educational grants for veterans are offered largely through information held by Veterans Affairs, for military personnel wounded, physically or mentally, on their tour of duty.

Specialized Grants: There are numerous organizations that offer grants, including educational types, for veterans, and for their offspring. Three of them are:

The American Council on Education (ACE): The ACE has a program specifically geared to funding education for veterans; it is known as “Serving Those Who Serve”, and veterans will find a range of grants for higher education. This particular program is slated for post-9/11 grants for veterans, but there appear to be no hard and fast rules that eliminate other veterans from applying.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Service: Its main focus is on retraining and educating with a goal toward job placement, but that often involves some level of higher education grants for veterans.

Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America (JWV): It offers three annual grants aimed at senior high school students. Given that specific age group, odds are these are not veterans, but the children and grandchildren of veterans. Exception is, if a Jewish grants for veterans opted to return to an interrupted high school education, he or she might qualify directly. Those who receive the grants must have marks within the top 25% of the class.
